Get rid of that stupid "Send Error" Report

Do you get tired of seeing this error report every time a Windows program malfunctions:

If you're like me, you have better things to do than click "Send" or "Don't Send" to tell Microsoft that their programs are messing up. There are lots of other people that do that anyway, so Microsoft stays well-informed of their problems without you and I volunteering our time to help them out.

Good news! You don't have to do that any longer. Here's how to disable it:

1. Click Start

2. Right-click on My Computer and choose Properties

3. Click the “Advanced” tab

4. Click the “Error Reporting” button

5. Check “Disable error reporting”, but also check “But notify me when critical errors occur”

Click OK twice, and don’t be bothered by that error message any more!

This week's video is a short clip from a news show. The anchor is interviewing an animal specialist and he is answering some questions that were emailed in to the show. Sounds a bit boring. Oh, did I mention that the animal guy brought a hyperactive chimpanzee with him?

    Scott --
Many thanks for the info on disabling that annoying reporting message. Here's an unrelated question:

Is there a way to configure the start up menu so that fewer processes are constantly running in the background? I mean are they all necessary? Surely they slow down the computer?

    Scott,

Would it be possible for you to flag your tips with information on whether they apply to Windows XP, Vista, W2K, Win9x, just some of these versions, or all versions of Windows?

    1. Yes, there are things you can do so that fewer programs are running - if fact, there are a LOT of things you can do. This is a project I am working on right now - look for an announcement in the next few weeks about this.

    2. Just about all of the tips in my blog would apply to XP or Vista, since those are the operating systems used by the vast majority of users today. It would be unsafe to use a computer with Windows 98, since it cannot be properly secured for internet use. There are still a few Windows 2000 users, but they really need to think about upgrading or replacing that computer if it is that old. It is probably safe to assume that my tips are for XP or Vista and if it is specific to one or the other, I will mention it in the post.

    Thanks for the input!

Sorry my friend...I have not worked on a Windows ME computer in quite some time, and can't tell you if there is a procedure available to disable that error message from coming up.

There may be something on the Microsoft website about this, but I suspect Microsoft is trying to block that whole "Windows ME" experience from memory :)
